Bricks & Barrels @ Sri Hartamas

Adding a splash of colours to the urban watering hole, Bricks & Barrels is a welcome addition to the bustling commercial district of Sri Hartamas offering an extensive list of pork-centric fares and countless choice of cocktails and alcoholic beverages. The seven-month old establishment proves to be an popular spot for a good meal and drink, attracting urbanites to wind down after a long day at work. Bricks & Barrels started in Ipoh, a successful venture by Calvin Leow that soon found its way to Kuala Lumpur. “Our Hartamas outlet features the same mix of gastro bar and beer garden concept, albeit with a bigger footprint and a stage for live bands to perform every night except Sunday,” he said.

While traditional pubs are essentially drinking establishments with little emphasis on food, Bricks & Barrels set forth a reinvigorated concept of dishing out a varying selections of Italian-inspired fares starting with its signature Hawaiian Pork Pizza (RM 35.00), a thin-crusted oven baked pizza filled with pork bacon, pineapple and mozzarella cheese. The mixture of savoury and sweet bite from the bacon and pineapple chunks will bound to make this a crowd-pleasing favourite.

The stomach-filling Porky Carbonara was another praiseworthy dish with the runny egg providing an extra layer of creaminess to the classic dish. The kitchen certainly did not skimp on the ingredients as the bountiful-looking pasta was garnished with a generous amount of sliced bacon making the dish a truly scrumptious affair.

Bricks & Barrels’ love for all things porkiness extends to its BBQ Pork Ribs (RM 38.00) served with luscious ribs glazed with the sweet-scented bbq sauce. The meat was favourably tender with its flesh separating from the bone with ease.

The B&B Chicken (RM 32.00) was meticulously prepared with grilled chicken stuffed with wild mushrooms. The meat was cooked with the right amount of timing, yielding a moist and tender texture while the bed of mashed potatoes and brown sauce enhances the overall taste of the dish.

Bricks & Barrels’ Roast Pork Knuckle (RM 88.00) was eye-catchingly plated with vegetables, roast potatoes, sauerkraut and two types of sauces. The gastro bar certainly got the classic roast pork done right as each bite was met with a pleasing mix of textures contrasting between the crackling golden brown skin with easily-chewed tenderised flesh. The apple sauce was surprisingly inviting with a nice tinge of apple scented flavoured dipping to compliment the savoury tasting meat.

Bricks & Barrels also boasts a fine selection of cocktails starting with the B&B Mojito (RM 28.00) mixed with rum, min leaves lime, brown sugar and bitters.

Espresso Martini (RM 28.00) was deliciously concocted with kahlua, vodka and espresso while the Cosmopolitan has a potent taste of cranberry mixed with vodka cointreau and lime.

If one is planning to pound a few rounds of beers or cocktails with their friends down at a watering hole, Bricks & Barrels is a good choice to be at. At night, the place becomes alive with customers enjoying a sumptuous dinner at the beer garden or simply chilling out inside the bar with perky music filling up the air.
