The Blacklist Cafe and Restaurant @ SS2, Petaling Jaya

The Blacklist Cafe and Restaurant certainly raise an eyebrow or two when it comes to its offbeat name. Apparently, the word ‘Blacklist’ was inspired by an American crime drama television series which stars James Spader and Megan Boone although ironically, one wouldn’t find any noticeable paraphernalia inside the establishment that relates to the series.

Situated at a two-storey corner lot house along the bustling road of SS2, The Blacklist Cafe and Restaurant makes ample use of its floorspace with a cozy indoor dining area and a spacious al fresco compound for customers to chill out with soothing music throughout the wee hours of the night.

While the coffee wave is spreading like wildfire these days, The Blacklist Cafe and Restaurant does pay heed to their food menu as well with the palate-pleasing Seafood Marinara Spaghetti (RM 26.00). Cooked with mussels, prawns and squid, the rich tomato sauce and herbs complemented the flavours of the sea and bound to be a favourite among pasta lovers.

Unfortunately, the Lamb Shank (RM 35.00) was not without fault as the braised meat was lacklustre of the “meaty” flavour that one would expect. The accompanied brown sauce was rather insipid and failed to impart a zest of flavour to the entire dish. Fortunately, the friendly folks behind this restaurant has taken note of it and will strive to perk up its recipe in the coming days.

The Pull Beef Focaccia (RM 23.00) thankfully turned the tide to its favour with the scrumptiously made sandwich served with potato chips. Much of the flavour came from the pulled meat itself which has a nice bite texture with a slightly spicy and tangy taste.

Grilled Chicken Breast (RM 24.00) was nicely executed with creamy Dauphine Potatoes and sweet honey mustard sauce.

Caffeine addicts will be pleased to know that The Blacklist Cafe uses imported beans from Australia for their brewed coffee; Cafe Latte (RM 10.00), Cappuccino (RM 11.00) and Flat White (RM 10.00).

The Lime and Strawberry Soda were refreshingly good for quenching one’s thirst at RM 7.00 each.

Suffice to say, The Blacklist Cafe and Restaurant has potential to grow in this mature neighbourhood that is already populated with many eateries and cafes. Service is great and the people behind this establishment is continuously listening to feedback from their customers to refine its menu.
