Food Trip #2: Gerai Soya Bean Jalan Maharani @ Teluk Intan

Right after my lunch at Pun Chun Chicken & Biscuit in Bidor, I drove 40km west towards Teluk Intan to savour the famous Soya Bean stall at Jalan Maharani. Based on the excellent write up by Motormouth From Ipoh, it didn’t take me long to track down this unassuming soya bean stall. I parked my car in front of Menara Condong Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan and set foot to find Jalan Maharani using my iPhone GPS.

Located at the intersection of Jalan Maharani and Jalan Ah Cheong, Gerai Soya Bean Jalan Maharani was the only stall opened that day. The stall was enjoying a brisk business thanks to the hot sunny weather.

The owner, Mr. Ng was a friendly person and I had a chat with him while quenching my thirst after walking under the hot sun. He claims that his soya bean is home made without the use of any preservative.

And how’s the taste? Firstly, the texture isn’t as thick as I hope it to be. I didn’t find it rich with soya taste either. Instead, the sugar syrup dominated the flavour of the drink.

And this was after having TWO glasses to ensure that my taste bud wasn’t failing me.

Honestly, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t as good as I imagined it to be. Still, the popularity of this stall is undeniable as scores of customers were seen buying soya bean that day.
